| description | Research suggests that networks are a strategic response to the challenges and opportunities facilitated by the globalisation of capital, and the advance in information and communication technologies.
The purpose of this paper is to examine the emerging trends in supply chain networks. The literature drawn upon to understand the concept and potential benefits of networks is derived not only from supply chain and logistics literature; but also transaction cost economics, strategic alliance literature, industrial marketing, purchasing and organisational behaviour literature.
The literature review has been conducted along two axes: that of the supply chain network, and that of the organisational requirements that a firm has to fulfil in order to realise the potential of the collaboration. It is the author's belief that a successful operational network may only realise true value added growth if it can simultaneously absorb and overcome the organisational implications that a partnership incurs. In addition to the literature review, a case study on Boots plc, provides a more direct practitioner approach of the current problems and practises concerning inter firm collaboration and networking.
This paper will endeavour to underline the literature that supports inter firm collaboration and networking, as a source for achieving competitive advantage. |
