Summary:Smart functional nanoparticles have attracted considerable interest over the last few years due to their unique properties and behaviours, which could be used in a wide range of applications such as diagnostics and drug delivery. Nanoparticles based on polyacrylamide matrices were constructed using free radical polymerisation methodology. Moreover, newly designed azido, alkyne and maleimido functional groups bearing nanoparticles were synthesised, and their unique chemical properties were comprehensively evaluated. The contribution of monomer composition to the size distribution of particles was studied. The availability of the newly introduced functional groups was confirmed by clicking fluorogenic substrates followed by spectroscopic studies.
