Summary:The paper presents an analytical investigation of the electromagnetic wave propagation in a tapered core dielectric elliptical step-index fiber. Implementing Maxwell's equations in elliptical coordinates, field components are deduced that essentially incorporate Mathieu and the modified Mathieu functions.
