description Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is an autoimmune disease whereby there is no known cure of the disease. Thus, SLE individuals are advised to comply strictly towards the medication in controlling their disease activity. On the other hand, mindfulness is a concept which originates from Zen Buddhism with the intention of bringing awareness back to the present moment. A mindful individual is understood to acquire a better quality of life. Hardiness is a personality factor to which one is able to perform despite being exposed with stressful conditions. Therefore, SLE individual with a higher level of mindfulness and hardy is seen to have a better psychological well-being than the opposite. The objective of the study conducted is to examine the associations between mindfulness and hardiness with emotional distress and suicidal ideation among SLE individuals. Thus, the present study, consisting of 141 females and 7 males have completed the standardised assessments measuring mindfulness, hardiness, emotional distress and suicidal ideation. Four multiple linear regression analysis was computed in identifying the relationship and association between; 1) Mindfulness and stress, anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation and 2) Hardiness and stress, anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation. The results obtained from this study indicated that there was a statistically significant result between; 1) Mindfulness and stress, anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation and 2) Hardiness and depression. The findings of this study observed that a higher level of mindfulness results in a lower level of stress, anxiety depression and suicidal ideation. A hardy individual also is seen to be negatively correlated with depression.
