| description | Background: Centella asiatica (CA) extracts is proven to be beneficial for wound healing treatment as the active constituent which are asiaticoside, madecassoside and asiatic acid possesses several medicinal effects such as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. However, too much CA can cause severe side effect.
Objective: In order to overcome the limitation, the efficacy of CA extract can be increased by using a suitable drug carrier such as polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and chitosan (CS).
Methodology: Methanolic extraction of CA was done by using maceration method by solvent methanol/water with ratio (9:1). PVA/chitosan loaded 2,4 and 6% of centella asiatica extract were successfully fabricated using electrospinning technique.
Results: From SEM images showed PVA/chitosan loaded centella asiatica were homogenous and non-woven structure
Conclusion: In vitro release study of Centella asiatica extract were measured by using HPLC and showed sustained release and obeyed the first order release kinetics. |
