This study discusses the consequences of increased rates of divorce and marital discords in
Zanzibar. Therefore, this study addresses important social effects of rising divorce rates such as
large number of street children and spread of adultery and psychosocial impact. This study is
developed using the descriptive and analytical methods, along with field study as the researcher
interviewed some people who affected with serious consequences of divorce. Among the important
findings of the study is that the phenomenon of divorce in Zanzibar has left social, psychological
and behavioural effects on the spouses and children, in addition to the increase of mental illness,
the spread of adultery and street children. This research is meant to explore and unveil the
detrimental effects of divorce that poses threat to the social fabric, as the consequences of
family and society which live in continuous problems are deplorable. This research contains two
sections: the first deals with the social effects followed by the increase in the phenomenon of
divorce and the second discusses the psychological effects affected by the spouses and children as
a result of divorce in Zanzibar. |
