Being labeled as sexual deviants and generally discriminated by the society, the majority of the maknyah do not get a decent job. Thus, many of them end up in the sex trade. In a 2002 study on 507 maknyah, it found that 92% of the respondents had received payment for sex, even though only 54% claimed they were sex workers. Thus, they are at the high risk for contracting Human Immunodeficiency (HIV) and later on predisposed to developing Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) |
