description Preservation of manuscript, especially using insecticide as insect repellent, is a serious issue for archivists, conservators and private collectors. Althoug is rampant nowadays, traditional methods are still very much in practice. This study will explain the practical application of traditional natural source; pepper, Piper Nigrum L. as insect repellent for preserving paper documents from insects attack in tropical countries such as Malaysia and India. The existing insecticide in use at many museums is hazardous and very poisonous. In addition, the treatment can only be done by professional and authorized operators, he cause for its very high cost. Furthermore, some chemicals used not only affect the environment, but they also have adverse effects on the manuscript. as an insect repellent for paper manuscripts, and the suggested. This is prepared into wax solid form by mixing pepper powder with paraffin wax; wax acting as binding medium to hold pepper powder to the place without changing its properties. Sarawak Black and White Peppers Cockroach, Periplaneta Americana (Linnaeus), a common insect which attack paper in museum in Malaysia were selected for the study. The study will look into the acidity of pepper powder, its effect to paper fibre, and efficiency of pepper powders as insect repellent.
