description In reconstructing a framework of architectural and design theory to be relevant to education and built environment and design in the Islamic world and which is capable to give rise to architectural and built environment form and design, there is a need to take a closer look at the values, revisiting the theories, trends and past tendencies in the past movements of architecture. As these theories are mainly rooted in Western architectural developments of the past, a reassessment of these theories in the light of fundamental Islamic values is deemed necessary. Such analyses and discourse will enable us to ‘deconstruct’ or analyse these theories through an alternative value system. As a whole, current theories of architecture are steeped in Western philosophies. These theories include past civilizational developments, artistic trends, tendencies, movements and technological achievements of their past eras. Within the framework of current architectural theory which dominate architectural history education, design theory, perspectives in mainstream architectural references, books and sources of architectural knowledge; architecture of the Islamic world and its ideas are not integrated as the mainstream development. Hence the architecture language and design that governs and influences the main stream architectural education and schools of thoughts with prevalent styles and trends are devoid of the Islamic world architectural contribution and its worldview. A reconstruction and development of a tawhidic value-laden discourse and theory is not possible without taking into account a revisiting and then a reconstructing of perspectives of these Western theories and histories. The aim of this paper is to look into trends on Western design, architectural movements and history such as the Arts and Crafts movement, the Modern Movement, critical regionalism, post modernism and de-constructivism, so as to unearth and analyse the values behind them. The analyses made through sieving the jargon and terms based on Islamic values can be identified and discussed while those absent of such values can be highlighted. Such de-construction and re-analysis is necessary before the re-construction of architectural thoughts, theories and principles based on the tawhidic paradigm can begin.
