| Summary: | Thermochemical batteries are a new way to store green energy via reversible chemical reactions at extremely high temperatures. Solid-gas reactions involving barium carbonate or strontium carbonate combined with additives were evaluated for cyclic capacity retention, energy density and cost. Titanium dioxide-based additives were found to improve cycling, at a low cost These new materials can cheaply store green energy for when it is needed and help to decarbonise heavy industry and stabilise the grid. |
