| Summary: | Organic compounds with macrocyclic or simple scaffolds were synthesised for investigation as anti-viral and anti-parasitic molecules. Over 50 novel compounds were synthesised and characterised, with some of these compounds sent for human papillomavirus, T. b. rhodesiense and P. falciparum testing. The results for the parasitic testing on T. b. rhodesiense suggested the macrocyclic calix[4]arene scaffold was important for biological activity. This work was the first time T. b. rhodesiense activity was reported for calix[4]arene compounds. |
