| Summary: | The study investigated professional identity development and factors affecting collaborative practice in a cohort of Australian dietitians, using a mixed methods approach. Professional identity formation challenged students with transition shock on entering employment but developed as their practice and confidence increased. Collaborative practice was affected by role socialisation, employment context and power relationships in the workplace.
Recommendations include articulating professional identity into curriculum, early exposure to the professional community and greater student opportunities for collaborative practice. |
