| Summary: | The study demonstrates the application of 3D Discrete Element Method in geomechanics by modelling three example problems. Solutions are suggested to overcome the method’s restrictions and new calibration and testing techniques developed to improve the modelling quality. Comprehensive sensitivities are performed to cover a wide range of parameters in sample calibration and scratch test simulation. New methods are proposed for measuring the mechanical properties and modelling fluid phase by discrete particles. |
