Summary:The research undertaken has developed relationships between the concentrations of optically-significant substances (phytoplankton, Colour Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM), and particulates) found in Great Barrier Reef waters and their respective inherent optical properties. Based on this knowledge, a physics-based spectral deconvolution routine was developed that successfully retrieved the concentrations of these substances from passive ocean colour observations such as those from the MODIS imaging satellite.
