Assessment of the New DFMC and PPP services of the second-generation SBAS in the Mining and Urban environments

description In 2017, a two-year test-bed for a second generation Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) was initiated in Australia and New Zealand in preparation for building an operational system. In addition to the traditional SBAS L1 service for GPS, the test-bed provided the dual-frequency multi-constellation (DFMC) SBAS service, and the precise point positioning (PPP) service using GPS and Galileo. In this study, and for the first time, the positioning performance of the different SBAS services is presented in the mining sector. It is shown that after convergence of the horizontal PPP solutions, the RMSE is at sub-dm to dm. Furthermore, this contribution presents and compares two weighting models that can benefit the new DFMC SBAS in environments with large multipath, firstly not considering the signal smoothing time and secondly considering it. The results show that considering the smoothing time in the weighting model is helpful to improve the positioning accuracy without degrading the availability.
