Description
Summary:This investigation of complex corrosion inhibition mechanisms involved application of state-of-the-art analytical techniques that allowed for characterizing interfaces between corrosion-inhibiting surface films and carbon steel. Synergistic effects of chemical compounds in corrosion inhibitor formulations were investigated using small-angle neutron scattering and mathematical modelling. Correlative microscopic, spectroscopic and 3-D tomographic techniques were successfully utilized to understand chemical corrosion inhibition and to elucidate formation mechanisms of corrosion-inhibitive surface layers on an ancient iron made by Indian tribes.
