| Summary: | Applying mixed methodology approach, this study demonstrates that traditional knowledge (TK) and language vitality of a community related to biodiversity is reflected in the community’s taxonomic and nomenclatural systems. Conducted in collaboration with n=157 individuals from the Kanekes (Banten, Indonesia) and Ba’ie Segan (Malaysian Borneo) communities, the study establishes that ethno-nomenclatural systems are derived using both traditional knowledge and linguistic mechanisms. Drafting adequate participatory interventions to stem loss of TK and language vitality is emphasised. |
