Summary:Metal nanoparticles were generated by the Laser Ablation Synthesis in Solution approach, encapsulated and stabilised by a variety of ligands in solution. The encapsulation ligands were designed and synthesised to allow the attachment of phosphorescent transition metal complexes on their outer shell. This should facilitate energy transfer between the complex-centre excited state and the surface plasmon resonance of the core. This exploitation of the electronic structure of the nanoparticle surface has insinuations for a variety of photovoltaic applications.
