Description
Summary:This research presents an extensive experimental investigation on the effect of both tool and rock properties on the contact stress and friction coefficient mobilised across the wear surface of tools in rock cutting. Novel results confirm the existence of three contact regimes elastic, elasto-plastic and plastic and the predominant role of a dimensionless a number function of the inclination angle of the wear surface, the rock elastic modulus, and rock strength on the contact stress.
