Description
Summary:Newmont Mining has a centralized gold treatment facility at its Carlin mine in Nevada that processes gold loaded activated carbon from all its gold treatment plants at Carlin and produces doré bars that are sent to an external gold refinery for further treatment. The carbon and gold treatment facilities have been operated for over 25 years employing a multitude of unit operations including elution, electrowinning, acid digestion, retorting and a 2-stage melt process to deliver between 31,000 and 62,000 kg (1,000,000 and 2,000,000 Troy ounces) of gold doré per year. This paper provides details of the unit processes and changes made during the life of the centralized treatment facility.
