| Summary: | There is no current theory that fully explains the genetic mechanisms of fibre colour inheritance in alpacas. My PhD project analysed three genes, MC1R, ASP and Tyrp1, previously identified as key genes controlling pigment determination in mammals. This project reports the identification of several novel polymorphisms associated with fibre colour variation in alpacas and is a significant contribution to the understanding of the inheritance patterns of the major colour loci in alpacas. |
