description An investigation on the effect of electrostatic fields on mass transfer was carried out in an effort toward development of a commercial application of electrostatic solvent extraction (ESX) in hydrometallurgy. The results provide a detailed understanding of how the properties of electrostatic fields effect and affect interfacial phenomena, droplet dispersion and droplet agitation, which are the main factors that influence mass transfer in ESX. The most suitable conditions for practical applications of ESX were determined.
