| Summary: | The effects of cell culture on X chromosome aneuploidy in young women with established fertility were investigated. Fluorescence in situ hybridisation was performed on paired samples of mitogen stimulated and uncultured lymphocytes using probes for the X and 9 chromosomes. All participants had <5% X aneuploidy in both preparations. X chromosome loss occurred more frequently than gain. These results provide important information when interpreting the low levels of X mosaicism seen in routine cytogenetic practice. |
