The questionnaire contains items on sociodemographic characteristics, medical condition, quality of life, nutritional status, functional capacity, and depression status. The forward and backward translation process of the original English version questionnaire was done by 3 independent linguistic translators and validated its content by an expert team of 7 geriatricians, physicians, dietitian and lecturers. The Malay version of the questionnaire was tested for face validity in 10 over 65 year old elderly patients admitted to medical wards in Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia. The internal consistency reliability and construct validity were evaluated in a group of 166 elderly patients (mean age 71.0 years, 73.5% male) at Medical Outpatients Department (MOPD) and medical wards of Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. The questionnaire was administered through face-to-face interviews with the patients. Minor amendments were made after the content and face validity tests. The internal consistency reliability was good as the Cronbach’s alpha of most of the scales achieved 0.70, ranging from 0.70 to 0.98 with only one exception (MNA-SF, Cronbach’s alpha 0.62). Factor loading of all scales were loaded satisfactorily above 0.40, ranging from 0.45 to 0.90. The Malay version of the CGA showed evidence of satisfactory internal consistency reliability and constructs validity in Malaysian geriatric patients and is therefore recommended for use to assess the quality of life, nutritional, functional, and depression status in this population.
