Methadone Maintenance Therapy (MMT) programme in Malaysia is committed to improve the health and quality of life for drug addicts, reduce relapse rates among drug users, especially those rigid, improve their mental and physical fitness addict, reduce the rate of infection among drug users who share needles, improving psychosocial functioning among drug users, including their ability to obtain and maintain the quality of work and increase the self confidence to go back into the community. Studies found that the longer the time spent in methadone maintenance treatment, the more likely the patient will remain crime-free and reduce their use of heroin. Nevertheless, client retention rate in the MMT had an inverse relationship with time. The objectives of this study are firstly to investigate the effects of spirituality on client retention. Secondly, the study will examine the mediating effect of Quality of life using Maqasid Syariah approach on the relationships between spirituality and client retention .The study will be conducted among opiate dependence enrolling in MMT programmes at the selected government clinics and hospitals in Terengganu.
