In this case, religion-based intervention plays an important role, as a lack of religiousness and spirituality is one of the contributing factors to this unresolved problem. However, no thorough study had evaluated the efficacy of the existing approaches of psycho-spiritual treatment for drug addicts in recovery. Thus, the objectives of this two-part study were to examine the (1) reliability and validity of the measurement instruments, and (2) clinical and psychosocial outcomes of the Inabah programme at the three established Inabah centres in Terengganu, Kelantan, and Kedah. The first part involved a prospective cross-sectional pilot study at Pusat Rawatan Baitul Taubah, Pasir Puteh, Kelantan. Meanwhile, the second part was the pre- and post-intervention study that was performed at three Inabah centres in Terengganu, Kelantan, and Kedah, enrolling new inmates aged ≥ 18 years, cognitively stable, and detoxificated. Convenience sampling was utilized in recruiting participants. The Malay version of WHOQOL-BREF, Brief Substance Craving Scale (BSCS), Withdrawal Symptoms questionnaire, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Opiate Treatment Index (OTI), and Psychological Measure of Islamic Religiousness (PMIR) were administered. Descriptive analysis, paired t-test (Shapiro-Wilk Test > 0.05), and Kruskal-Wallis were applied using SPSS version 23. The majority of domains had modest to high internal consistency reliability, suggesting that all the instruments were reliable. Most of the Cronbach’s alpha coefficients for all instruments surpassed 0.60. For the validity testing, with regard to the WHOQOL-BREF, only four items did not load onto their respective domains. For HADS, high item-domain correlations of unrelated dimensions proposed that anxiety and depression shared some common characteristics. Correlational study also provided the convergent and divergent validity of the Malay PMIR (convergent: rs = +0.28 to +0.68; divergent: rs = -0.00 to +0.43). The qualitative content validity (facial validity) strategy of OTI, Withdrawal Symptom List, and Craving Level from content experts and target group recommended that the instrument’s questions be related to the construct and study objectives. Positive clinical outcomes of Craving Level, Withdrawal Level, Drug Use, Health Status, and Psychological Adjustment were portrayed. For the psychosocial outcomes, significant small changes were detected for Overall HRQoL, Psychology, and General Health, whereas a significant reduction was also identified in Depression. From the religiosity perspective, significant improvements in Obligations and Implementations, Positive Relation with Others, Purpose in Life, Anger Traits, and Depression Symptomatology were exhibited. The positive impacts of the Inabah programme in this study served as the benchmark for Islamic-based intervention in drug addiction and perhaps would be helpful in incorporating the addiction treatment ideology into the country’s policy. 2025-03-16 11:56 uuid:A226A7A9-711C-419B-A230-CB93348249C7 17231_020402fcc508344.pdf PDF Xpansion, Version 12.0.3.3 Thesis
