In Malaysia, 20.6 percent of women entrepreneurs participate in business, including 1.9 percent of single-mother entrepreneurs. However, women entrepreneurs, particularly single mothers, often encounter difficulties, hurdles, and trials, which can lead many of them to experience failure in their businesses. The statistics show that 67 percent of women entrepreneurs fail in their businesses within the first ten years of operation. Therefore, the lower success rate among women entrepreneurs raises intention and concern among researchers and policymakers. From another perspective, the theoretical development of women's entrepreneurship is still premature, especially in explaining successful single-mother entrepreneurs. Moreover, the existing theories only emphasize a single dimension rather than multiple dimensions to describe the women entrepreneurship phenomenon. Thus, the current study aimed to develop a comprehensive model for describing women's entrepreneurship, particularly the success of single-mother entrepreneurs. This study adopted a qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews. Data was collected from 12 successful Kelantanese single-mother entrepreneurs who were recognized by the Kelantan State Government's Welfare, Family, and Women's Development Committee (UKeKWa). Purposive sampling was used until the study reached the data saturation point, and NVIVO 12 software was used for data analysis. The Attribution Theory is used as the theoretical underpinning to understand the phenomenon of women's entrepreneurship. After the data analysis process was completed, based on the new findings, three themes emerged in this study, which consisted of individual attributes, situational factors, and self-organizing. The self-organizing theme that appears in this study becomes complementary to individual attributes and situational factors. Individual attributes consist of cognitive, personality traits, competencies, and motivation. The situational factors are discussed from several views such as economic conditions, government support, and social interaction. The self-organizing theme involves two emerging subthemes comprising management functions and operational practices, which contribute to the novelty of this study. This study presented a new theme of self-organizing that is complementary to the existing theory and used to develop a new model describing successful Kelantanese single-mother entrepreneurs. uuid:16F8F28E-2E72-4471-8F91-1A985CB29041 WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP PHENOMENON A CASE STUDY OF SUCCESSFUL KELANTANESE SINGLE MOTHER ENTREPRENEURS.pdf 2025_Women Entrepreneurship Phenomenon: A Case Study Of Successful Kelantanese Single-Mother Entrepreneurs Thesis
