Many previous studies have shown that to create a synergy between the economic and ecological worlds, the manufacturing sector plays a crucial role in achieving sustainable development through introducing, developing, and adopting green and clean technology. Each country has then been charged to establish its strategy for achieving it through participation in the United Nations General Assembly that negotiated and adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). Thus, the study aims to assess the mediating role of green supply chain management in the relationship between green training and development and green recruitment and selection towards sustainable business advantage. This study uses a quantitative approach. The unit of analysis of this study focuses on the organisation's sustainable business advantage. The study's target population were the managers of selected business organisations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The respondents were chosen randomly from the sampling frame using simple random sampling. Before proceeding with the field study, these instruments were subjected to pre-testing, pilot study, and exploratory factor analysis procedures. The self-administered questionnaire was sent to the selected respondents through their email addresses. The data analysis employs structural equation modelling (SEM) in IBM SPSS AMOS to test hypotheses and mediation effects using bootstrapping. This study found that both direct and indirect effect hypotheses are significant. It is found that green recruitment and selection, green training and development, and green supply chains significantly and positively impact sustainable business advantage. The other findings found a significant and positive impact of green recruitment and selection and green training and development on the green supply chain. More importantly, the study found that green supply chain management mediates both relationships, namely green training and development and green recruitment and selection, with sustainable business advantage. The bootstrapping procedure confirmed the mediation test results, where both tests resulted in partial mediation. Theoretically, this study provides a comprehensive and insightful lens to analyse complex phenomena and offers a roadmap for further exploration and refinement. The theoretical implications of the study were fathomed through the Resource-Based View (RBV) theory, which underscores the significance of creating and utilising green training and development initiatives, along with green recruitment and selection practices, as valuable resources. The practical contributions from applying these theoretical insights validate the conceptual frameworks and offer tangible solutions and innovations that address real-world challenges. This study incorporates sustainability practices into training and development programmes, recruitment and selection procedures, and the supply chain is imperative for organisations to attain sustainable business advantages for the manufacturing industry in Saudi Arabia. Thus, the study provided considerable insights and recommendations for organisations that aim to improve their sustainable business advantage and establish an eco-friendly supply chain. Thesis |
