Several religious leaders, including Tuan Guru, are highly influential in the local political sphere. As the spiritual leader of the Sasak community in West Lombok, Tuan Guru plays an essential role in shaping political policies. “This condition can lead to waning trust and the division of society in political choices”. This research aims to reveal the involvement of Tuan Guru in political contests as a political actor. Thus, the researcher tries to explain the factors behind the involvement of Tuan Guru to enter the world of practical politics, then examine the political strategies used by Tuan Guru, and analyse the significant impact on the development of West Lombok in the era of Tuan Guru after being involved in politics. Methodology: This research uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design to help researcher describe and understand Tuan Guru's political strategy in West Lombok. Data were collected through fieldwork and three instruments: interviews, documentation, and observation. Then, informants were selected through purposive sampling consisting of Tuan Guru, community leaders, relevant stakeholders, and FGD (Focus Group Discussion) with Party Members. The collected data were then analysed using Atlas.ti.9 software. This made it easier to analyse the data. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews with Tuan Guru, who has significant political influence in West Lombok. In addition, documentation on Tuan Guru's political activities and strategies was also collected to provide a more complete context. FGDs were conducted involving various parties who have a diverse understanding of the political strategies used by Tuan Guru. This phenomenological design allowed the researcher to deeply understand Tuan Guru's political strategies, including the political policies promoted and the communication strategies used in influencing people's thoughts and actions. Result: Researcher uncovered Tuan Guru's political strategies in West Lombok through this study. It was found that Tuan Guru uses a combination of political policies based on religious values and local culture and effective communication strategies to influence people's thoughts and actions. Tuan Guru's involvement in politics is part of amar ma'ruf nahi munkar. However, every political manoeuvre in Ulama always contains two elements: sacred and profane, which means sincerity, honesty, and power. Conclusion: This study is expected to provide valuable insights for religious leaders, political stakeholders, and the general public in understanding the political strategies used by Tuan Guru. The contribution of the findings of this study can inspire further research in this area, enabling the development of new theories or better approaches to understanding the interaction between religion and politics. It is crucial to understand the role of religious leaders in local political dynamics, as it can significantly contribute to our knowledge and understanding of the political landscape in West Lombok. Research implications can be theoretical and practical. Political participation theory is a theory that discusses how people can participate in politics.
