Many studies have been conducted on these figures, especially those from Java, Sumatra, and other regions in western Indonesia. However, studies on Quranic figures from eastern Indonesia are still somewhat lacking, even though Quranic figures from East Indonesia also have scientific insight, intellectual abilities, and contributions that are equivalent to those from Java and Sumatra. Therefore, this study examined one of the crucial figures from eastern Indonesia, namely Tuan Guru Kiyai Haji Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Madjid (TGKH), regarding the approach and his contribution to Quranic education in Lombok. Methodology: This research was qualitative research that used document analysis. Data were obtained by analyzing documents from primary and secondary sources, such as journals, books, magazines, and the internet. In addition, a semi-structured interview approach was used in this study by interviewing several students and alums of institutions founded by TGKH. The data were analyzed using an inductive approach. Result: This study has successfully identified that TGKH is a prominent figure in the field of Quranic education in East Indonesia, as he has devoted himself to the development of Quranic education, in addition to his family background and education based on the Quran, as well as his activities and works in the field of Quranic education. Besides, TGKH‘s Quranic education approach covers several aspects: setting conditions for students, such as choosing a respected Quranic teacher, studying earnestly and respecting the teacher, purifying the heart to learn the Quran, and praying before studying the Quran. Then, TGKH emphasizes practical aspect by sending the students to read the Quran when there is a death and students are sent to various regions in Indonesia for Ramadan Safari. In the teaching aspect, TGKH provides Quranic lectures and demonstrates correct recitation to the public with a talaqqī musyāfahah approach. In Maahad, TGKH has taught the Quran more systematically, covering recitation, memorization, and interpretation. In recitation, he explained the theory of tajwīd using nazam, and practice with juz `Amma. In memorization, TGKH has used the tikrār method. TGKH also adds value to the interpretation by linking the interpretation to the situation and condition at that time. As an aspect of teaching aids, TGKH uses the book Nazam Batu Ngompal as a primary text for Quranic studies for students at Maahad. Moreover, TGKH has made a significant contribution to Quranic education, such as producing the works Nazam Batu Ngompal (a tajwīd book) and Mi`rāj al-Shibyān „Ila Samā‟i `Ilm al-Bayān (a balāghah book), establishing Ma‟had Darul Quran Wal Hadith, producing a chain of Quranic teachers, and producing Quran readers in Quran reading competition. Conclusion: This study has explained the authority of TGKH in developing Quranic education in Lombok, Indonesia. This study is also an essential source of reference in enriching the treasure of the Quranic education approach, not only in Lombok, but also in Indonesia.
