They attract the attentions of educationists, researchers and policy makers globally. Despite several attempts to tackle the problem by conducting several researches, the problem remains a nightmare. Therefore, this study aims to examine how socioeconomic status and school environment influence secondary school academic performance in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. The main objective of the study is to find out how parental income, education, occupation and school environment influence students academic performance. Descriptive survey research design was used in this study. Thus, a quantitative approach was utilised in which questionnaire was administered to the sample of 377 respondents from four selected secondary schools within Kuala Terengganu. The data is explained in three forms; Demographic information, Descriptive analysis and regression analysis. The results of the regression analysis indicate that parental income, education, occupation and school environment significantly influence students' academic performance. Therefore, the study concludes that socioeconomic status and school environment have a significant influence on students' academic performance. Suggestions and recommendations are given to parents, teachers, policy makers & administrators and future research .
