While employers in advanced economies recognize the benefits of work-life balance programs, employers in Nigeria consider them unprofitable. Previous studies have recommended the implementation of work-life balance initiatives by business owners in the country; however, most of these studies were exploratory and focused on identifying work-life balance concerns among workers. Researchers also concentrated on certain sectors of the economy, mainly banking, which does not provide employers with sufficient information to understand the benefits of work-life balance for organizational operations. Based on the Work-Family Enrichment Theory, this study aims to investigate the relationship between work-life balance and employee commitment and examine the influence of demographic factors on employee commitment among journalists in Nigeria. A sample of 169 respondents was drawn from the 396 journalists working in radio stations in Kano, Nigeria. A questionnaire was used to collect data, and correlation analysis, the Mann-Whitney test, and the Kruskal-Wallis test were employed to test the research hypotheses. The correlation analysis indicated a strong positive relationship between work-life balance and employee commitment, showing that work-life balance significantly influences employee commitment. However, the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis test results revealed no significant mean difference in employee commitment among journalists in Kano, Nigeria, based on demographic factors. These findings suggest that implementing work-life balance programs in Nigeria is worthwhile, as a balanced work-life experience translates into higher employee commitment. The researcher recommends that future studies focus on work-life balance initiatives that appeal to Nigerian workers and expand the study population by conducting similar research at regional or national levels, incorporating journalists from other media sectors.
