In developing countries such as Jordan, the IoT smart home is provided by several companies, however, the adoption of IoT smart homes by individuals is still limited and few studies examined this issue. The purpose of this study is to examine the predictors of the adoption of IoT smart homes in Jordan. The technology acceptance model (TAM), Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework, Social Exchange Theory (SET), and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) have been used to develop the conceptual model of this study. The study proposes that individual context (perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, social influence, and perceived cost) and technological context (security, privacy, and availability) affect the behavioural intention (BI) to use IoT smart homes. The study proposed that BI and facilitating conditions will have a positive effect on the adoption of IoT smart homes. Trust in the service provider was proposed as a mediator and IT knowledge as a moderator between individual and technological context, and BI of IoT smart home. This study is quantitative. The population of this study is high-income individual in Jordan. In particular, the study focuses on the executives in listed and non-listed companies. The study uses random sampling. The data was collected using a questionnaire. The questionnaire was validated and a pilot study was conducted prior to field data collection. A total of 315 respondents participated in this study. The data were analysed using SPSS and Smart Partial Least Square (Smart PLS). The measurement model was assessed as well as the structural model. The findings of hypotheses testing showed that the effects of individual (Coefficient=0.242, P-value<0.05) and technological context (Coefficient=0.419, P value<0.05) are positive and significant on BI to use IoT smart home. In addition, facilitating conditions (Coefficient=0.347, P-value<0.05) and BI (Coefficient=0.477, P value<0.05) to use IoT smart homes have a significant effect on the adoption of IoT. Trust partially mediated the effect of individual (Coefficient=0.046, P-value<0.05) and technological context (Coefficient=0.038, P-value<0.05) on the BI to use IoT smart home. However, IT knowledge moderated only the effect of individual context (Coefficient=0.175, P-value<0.05) on the BI to use IoT smart home but it did not moderate the effect of technological context on BI to use IoT smart home. Based on the literature and the findings of data analysis, a form of evaluating the model was developed. The model was evaluated by three experts and their recommendations of including income and examining the adoption among other groups were considered in future work. The experts concluded that the model is comprehensive, usable, and useful for predicting the adoption of IoT smart homes. Decision makers were advised to focus on the technological aspect and improve the trust in service providers. The IoT market is growing and its adoption among high-income individual is expected to grow. However, certain factors should be considered to enhance the adoption of IoT smart homes.
