This study purported to irnvestigate the impacts of the use of Natural Disaster Teaching Module (NDTM) on secondary school students in West Aceh, Indonesia on students’ academic, English learning achievements, and students’ motivation in learning English. The population of the study comprised the secondary school students studying in a public school in Acheh, Indonesia. The control group and the experimental group was of equal size, each having 30 students from the 8th grade. The pretest and posttest of the same test was administed on the students in both groups in the beginning and end of the study. The questionanaires were also distributed to the two groups upon completion of the experimental course. The teachers were also required to answer the questionnaires. The quasi-experimental teaching was conducted during the regular teaching hours of English class. The pretest results were used to identify the English proficiency of the two groups in the beginning of course. The result indicated that there was a significant difference found between the two group scores as shown in the posttest. Besides, only two out of seven null hypotheses were accepted. The results of the survey also indicated that the modular teaching could improve students’ motivation in learning English. The study indicated that the materials designed were useful for both groups of students (low and advanced), and the materials also enabled them to comprehend the difficult concepts and keep them on track in the learning process. This study recommends that educational policy makers take proactive steps in future for the development of English education at both the primary and secondary school levels. The teacher training institutions should train teachers in developing and applying different modules in different subjects Dissertations, Academic Thesis |
