This study strongly emphasizes the significance of fantasy works with evidence from Harry Potter and Soldier Son and purports that fantasy profoundly affects how we perceive reality. The strength of fantasy lies in its ability to inspire us, challenge our beliefs, and provide us with a deeper understanding of the world around us, despite the fact that some might view it as simple escapism. Furthermore, it analyzes how racial prejudice and postcolonialism work against the humanity of heroes and their community companions. Researchers, mass society, and educators benefit from the insights into this gap. This would help them establish better moral standards, away from the negativity of fantasy escapism. This study deploys a qualitative and textual analysis methodology. In order to analyze the given fantasy works, this study refers to the postcolonial theory in relation to the theme of alienation based on the variations of Melvin Seeman and the Race Theory of Frantz Fanon. To accomplish this textual analysis, the stories’ characters, settings, and conflicts are identified and analyzed; the symbolic actions and names are explored; some thematic morals are deducted; and some eventual and symbolic events and characters are conveyed in accordance with the postcolonial theory. This study indicates that fantasy works are rich with themes and issues that preserve people’s humanity, protect people’s dignity, and understand real-life conflicts among the members of society. The elements of fantasy in Rowling’s Harry Potter and Hobb’s Soldier Son are employed in contemporary social relevance, and they are used to analyze, understand and criticize the negative aspects of postcolonial themes, such as alienation, racial and social discrimination, and dehumanization, that mirror the life of people and their problems and influence in reality. Therefore, the findings of this study highlight the connection between alienation and suffering on the one hand and racial and social discrimination on the other hand. The two stories also reflect the relationships among the characters and the creatures alienated from their humanity, rights, identity, and families. Added to this, the fantasy stories present real-life themes such as fear, death, respect, friendship, bravery, and forgiveness and symbolize real-life and historical characters and events. This study investigates fantasy in the juxtaposition between alienation and postcolonialism in Joanne Rowling’s Harry Potter and Robin Hobb’s Soldier Son. Consequently, it helps demystify the connection between fantasy and reality with regard to morals, real-life conflicts, and historical conflicts. Besides, this study paves the way for other researchers to address the same issue from different perspectives. Dissertations, Academic Thesis
