The study intends to explore the use of language devices of an Islamic preacher in delivering his preaches. Hence, for that purpose, this research was conducted to identify the elements of humour and code-switching which were included in Islamic preaching. The study also meant to explore the perceptions among the audience towards the practicality of inserting humour and code-switching in Islamic preaching. The study applied the mixed-method approach with the dissemination of questionnaires to 350 respondents, among the students of the Faculty of Islamic Contemporary Studies, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin. The selection of respondents were based on their knowledge on Islamic studies thus qualify them to give better views on Islamic preaching and the effective discourse to be used in delivering Islamic da‟wa. The data of the interviews was gathered from three Islamic preaching experts. Then, the data from the interviews was analysed by using ATLAS.ti software. The data from the questionnaires was analysed by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS)., while a content analysis was conducted on the transcript of videos of Ustaz Don preaches in TV Al Hijrah. The findings of the study indicated that there are a lot of humour and code-switching elements inserted in Islamic preaches by the preacher which indirectly reflects his power as the authority in Islamic field. The findings also indicated that the perceptions towards humour and code-switching are relevant and enjoyed by the audience. Based on the qualitative data, there are various elements of humour and code switching in the preaches. The most significant element in humour is teasing which was used to show power, to create solidarity, and to show incongruity interpretations. While the significant element in code-switching is interjection, used to strengthen his preaches and mutually reflects his power or expertise. The findings from the quantitative data implied that most of the respondents agree that humour and code-switching attract them to Islamic preaching. Meanwhile, the findings from ATLAS.ti analysis encoded that humour and code-switching are well associated with language and power. Humour and code-switching elements in Islamic preaching are regarded as a polite way to outstand the power among preachers which were significant and accepted by the audience and other Islamic preachers. This is because the elements ease the learning environment and create friendly enforcement among the audience in retrieving the da‟wa disseminated through „languages‟ of power in Islamic preaching. This study will provide a practical communication strategy to be used by preachers to create an effective discourse of da‟wa. Dissertations, Academic Thesis
