Every language has its own pronouns substitute for first, second and third person(s) such as ناأ (anā), تنأ (anta) and متنأ (antum) in Arabic and I, you and them in English. This thesis is a contrastive study between Arabic and English pronouns. Previous studies have shown that students are unable to master the meaning, function and type of Arabic pronouns. Lack of awareness about the importance of pronouns and lack of materials in teaching Arabic are singled out as contributing factors for this problem. The objective of this study is to present the importances of Arabic and English pronouns and also to identify the similarities and differences between pronouns of the two languages. This research is a qualitative study using a contrastive content analysis to obtain data. This study found that the similarities that exist between Arabic and English pronouns can be used to help students understand the Arabic pronoun’s topic, especially for students who know English and want to learn Arabic language. This study can be considered a catalyst for other comparative studies of grammar between two foreign languages in Malaysia, namely Arabic and English. Dissertations, Academic Thesis
