In this study, media exposure acts as independent construct and academic achievement acts as dependent construct whereas, self-concept clarity, appearance related social comparison, thin-ideal internalization and body image disturbance have been identified as the mediating factors on the relationship of media exposure and academic achievement. Previous literature has proven that factor such as media exposure, self-concept clarity, appearance related social comparison, thin-ideal internalization and body image disturbance influence the academic achievement. However, empirical research that examined the inter-relationship of media exposure, self-concept clarity, appearance related social comparison, thin-ideal internalization, body image disturbance and academic achievement simultaneously in a single model has been never conducted among university female students. Thus, present study serves to bridge the gap prevails in the previous literature. This study used quantitative method and deductive research approach to measure the research objectives. This study was explanatory in nature as well as cross-sectional with respect to time horizon. After completion of pretest and pilot test, self-administered survey questionnaires were face-to-face distributed to the respondents for final data collection. From the questionnaires collected for sampling frame, 576 respondents were selected by using a cluster random sampling technique and analysed by using Structural Equation Modelling. The questionnaire contained six sections measuring media exposure, self-concept clarity, appearance related social comparison, thin-ideal internalization, body image disturbance and academic achievement. Whereas, last section of the survey instrument comprised on items to measure the demographics profile of respondents. The findings of this study supported thirteen of the proposed hypotheses including mediational hypotheses. Results revealed that self-concept clarity, appearance related social comparison, thin-ideal internalization and body image disturbance mediates the relationship between media exposure and academic achievement of university female students. The results of this study contributed the theoretical implications by signifying a structural model that assesses the relationship among media exposure, self-concept clarity, appearance related social comparison, thin-ideal internalization, body image disturbance and academic achievement. The study suggested practical contribution to university management, clinical implications for psychologist, marketing, media content agencies and Pakistan electronic media regulatory authority. From this study, universities management would have a better understanding on aspects to improve university female students’ academic achievement. The management of universities expand understandings on how to reduce the negative effect of media exposure on academic achievement. Furthermore, universities management can improve the students’ psychological health that exerts positive influence on their academic activities, learning outcome and overall academic achievement.
