Digital business transformation strategy is becoming a high priority element of the top management agenda of many organizations as a strategic response for digital disruption. However, previous studies have shown that most of the organization’s transformation practices failed to meet organizations expectation, indicating the need for more research in this area. The lack of understanding of digital transformation strategy requirements and the lack of consensus on a generally acceptable robust framework for digital transformation process motivated the researcher to conduct this research. Grounding from Resources based View (RBV) and Dynamic Capabilities View (DCV), the researcher developed a readiness assessment model to examine organizations readiness for digital transformation. The research also investigated a possible mediation role for dynamic capabilities between organizational capabilities and organizational readiness for digital transformation. By conducting a quantitative research, the model was empirically validated using data collected from 230 telecommunication mid-level managers in Yemen. The researcher used Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) method to analyze the data and test the predetermined hypotheses. The research findings show that organizational capabilities including digital leadership, information and communication technologies (ICT) capabilities and organizational culture have positive influence on organizational readiness of firms for digital transformation. The findings confirm a mediation role of dynamic capabilities between organizational capabilities (digital leadership and organizational culture) and organizational readiness for digital transformation. The findings emphasize the importance of dynamic capabilities in the digital environment described by its continuous changing. The model contributes to the body of knowledge in digital transformation. It could be used also by managers to assess their organizations readiness for digital transformation and identify any possible gaps to be addressed in the digital transformation process. As the researcher focused only on organizational readiness of firms for digital transformation, future studies are recommended to extend this model to cover the technological and environmental readiness factors and to further validate this model in other industries.
