These factors play a significant role as invisible barriers toward intercultural competence. Many serious problems may arise when people from different countries, races, values, corners of the world come together; working in a multicultural team involves many challenges, disagreements, and conflicts. These challenges and conflicts affect the performance of the individuals and the entire firm to a certain degree. In a multicultural environment, the firms need to find a solution to bring clarity in intercultural competence. In addition to functioning effectively within culturally diverse organizations, managers and employees must navigate unfamiliar human terrains when interacting with clients from a broad spectrum of countries and cultures. However, most of the previous studies on cultural factors and intercultural competence have focused on developed countries, with little attention given to developing countries like Nigeria. Therefore, this study aims to examine the influence of cultural factors on intercultural competence in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) context. The cultural theory was used to develop the theoretical framework investigating Nigerian National Petroleum corporations (NNPC). Questionnaires were adopted from past literature to identify the cultural factors affecting intercultural competence in Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) context. In order to achieve a reasonable response rate for this study, a total of 420 questionnaires were sent through email to the NNPC employees in the southwest region of Nigeria. Out of the 420 questionnaires, 350 questionnaires were received with an equal percentage of 83%. Conversely, 39 questionnaires were unusable due to missing data or provided the same responses to all the questions. Thus overall, 74% of the total questionnaires received were usable, concluding with an adequate sample of 311. Besides, the quantitative method was used to fulfill the objectives, and questionnaires were used to gather the required data. Additionally, multiple regression analysis under the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) approach was employed to examine the direct relationship as drawn by hypotheses. The finding of this study, through multiple regressions, reported that cultural factors have a direct relationship with intercultural competence. This study recommended that Nigerian National Petroleum corporations (NNPC) should provide opportunities for their managers and employees to engage in intercultural competence programs to obtain the critical knowledge, skills, and directions in managing the cultural conflict.
