Hence, family members are often forced to make decisions that have a major impact on patient care under difficult conditions and this will create a very emotional environment for the family members. This study was conducted to: (1) validate the measurement model for ICU care and ICU decision-making based on FS-ICU 33 scale, (2) determine the satisfaction level of family members of ICU patients, (3) determine significant differences between sociodemographics and (4) determine the correlation of the level of satisfaction of family members with care and decision making of patient family members in the ICU of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, Terengganu. This is a cross-sectional study performed with 196 respondents in the first phase, while in the second phase 208 respondents received questionnaires. The questionnaires were analysed using SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 21.0 software. The first phase study showed that the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) met all criteria and values (Bartlett’s Test was significant, KMO > 0.6, total estimated variance > 60% and factor weighting values > 0.6) and Reliability values were 0.907 and 0.873. Factor Validation (CFA) analysis showed that all constructs met the set requirements, namely factor weighting value greater than 0.6, reliability value (AVE greater than 0.5), Reliability value (CR greater than 0.6) and compatibility index value model for measurement model (RMSEA < 0.08, CFI > 0.90 and Chisq / df < 3.0). One item from domain 1 was deleted from further investigation due to poor factor loading. In addition, the CFA analysis achieved Discriminant Validity of all constructs in the study model. In phase two a total of 208 family members of ICU patients involved in this study (2) had a very good level of satisfaction with the treatment (73.47%) received and moderate satisfaction (63.95%) when making decisions related to patient care. The background of the respondent is significant to the level of care and decision-making process. Higher satisfaction in ICU care results in higher satisfaction in decision making and vice versa. From the analysis of the construct study the level of satisfaction of family members related to intensive care service is a benchmark in identifying the level of satisfaction in decision making of family members. Efforts should be made in assisting health teams in Malaysia to improve the quality and management of ICUs as there is a lack of data and research on family satisfaction with ICUs in Malaysia.
