Recently, poor spirituality is thought to play a role in addiction and relapse. A growing body of evidence suggests dhikr meditation practice as an important spiritual practice with promising outcome in the treatment of mental health problems. This study intent to explore the role of dhikr from the religiosity/spirituality perspectives during the recovery process, develop and validate a structured model of dhikr meditation for cessation of drug addiction and evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of dhikr meditation towards addiction recovery. Methodology: A phenomenology study was conducted in order to explore the role of dhikr as a therapeutic treatment for drug addiction. Then, a model on cessation of drug addiction using dhikr practice was developed. Prior to the intervention, the model was validated using two rounds of the Delphi techniques. Moreover, the reliability of the model was tested using α-Cronbach for internal consistency and Fleiss Kappa for inter rater reliability. Next, the pilot study of dhikr meditation of recovering drug addicts was carried out via the control and experimental groups. Result: Three main themes were found from the phenomenology study, namely meanings of dhikr meditation practice based on the participants‘ perspective, the implications of dhikr meditation practice for participants‘ wellbeing and life and coping mechanisms using dhikr meditation practices. As a result, a model of dhikr spiritual meditation for cessation of addiction was developed. Analysis of two rounds of Delphi revealed that thirteen experts agreed with the three emerged domains in the model. Across two rounds of Delphi, consensus was achieved in 85.2% (n = 27) of statements, with 100% (n = 5), 70% (n = 9) and 91.7% (n = 13) consensus achieved for the first, second and third domain respectively. Results of internal consistency reliability showed higher reliability with 0.842, 0.845 and 0.860 across three domains respectively. Meanwhile, the Fleiss Kappa indicated moderate agreement between the raters with 0.612 ± 0.025, with Confidence Interval (CI) 95% [0.563, 0.660]. Next, the independent t-test on drug problems for the past 30 days, spiritual well-being and general health score have shown a statistical difference between the control and experimental groups at the end of the intervention, t(39) = 2.038, p = 0.048, 95% CI [0.000, 0.036], t(39) = -3.187, p = 0.003, 95% CI [-9.423, 2.105] and t(39) = 2.732, p = 0.009, 95% CI [0.589, 3.949] respectively. Conclusion: As a conclusion, dhikr therapy is one of the promising spiritual, therapeutic treatments for drug addiction recovery. Further work is required to establish the therapeutic efficiency of dhikr meditation practice for drug addiction recovery. Dissertations, Academic Sila masukkan subject wajib Dissertations, Academic.
