Hence, most of the countries have begun using new techniques and tools, such as interactive graphic design for the tourism campaigns and make it as country branding, in order to assist their tourism promotion. In Malaysia, for example, attractive graphic logos and advertisement designs have a significant role to improve the tourism industry. The Malaysian state of Terengganu is characterized by many place values for tourist attractions but there is a lack of content in tourism, in spite of logo design is the most popular effective tools for promoting the tourism industry. Therefore, the objectives of the study were to identify the extent of tourism logos capacity for Terengganu state, to propose a set of Terengganu tourism logo designs, and to analyse the new Terengganu tourism logo designs. This applied research used qualitative methods through time-sampling observations and semi-structured interviews. Eighteen participants of Terengganu’s tourism offices and tourists responded to open-ended questions regarding their experiences. Thematic analysis was performed. Each item was studied repeatedly, and relevant extracts from the data set were collated to form themes. Themes were checked against each other and against the original data set to ensure that they were coherent, consistent, and distinctive. The findings of the study revealed the possibility of promoting tourism in Terengganu by using the new visual logo designs embedded with local culture and heritage elements to assist the tourism industry of the state at the national and international levels. Moreover, the thematic analysis revealed five themes: new visual logo designs, promotion of tourism, local identity, logo feature benefit, culture and heritage. Hence, respondents of the interviews were optimistic that the new Terengganu tourism logo designs are able to promote the state’s tourism activities. The findings of the study can be beneficial for Terengganu Tourism Department to achieve sustainable tourism promotion. The new visual logo designs have been completely produced based on the characteristics of interesting places in the state embedded with the local culture and heritage elements as added values. At the same time, findings of the study are also beneficial to other state’s government agencies related to tourism to assist in creative advertising, market segmentation and promotional campaigns.
