There is inadequate information on the risk factors of oral disease in Sirt city in Libya despite the existence of potential predisposing factors of the infection such as low socio-economic levels of the people living in the area. Asymptomatic and under detected carriers among children may lead to higher prevalence of the disease making it difficult to be eradicated. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of oral disease and factors associated with it among primary school children in Sirt city, Libya. This was a cross sectional study done on primary school children age 10 to 14 years old. Data was collected using self-administered questionnaire to collect information on socio demographic data, food and drink intake, awareness and oral hygiene practice. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 25. The response rate was 78.8%. The overall mean age of the 315 respondents was 1235±1,6. The mean family monthly income was $1500±900,40. Prevalence of oral disease was 33.7%. The multiple logistic regression analysis showed that children within age group 1 to 14 years old were 6 times more likely to develop oral disease, and children comes from families with low monthly income increased the odds of having oral disease with almost 3 times. Similarly, presence of chronic disease increased the odds of having oral disease with almost 2.6. times as compared with healthy primary school children. Children with unsatisfactory vitamin D intake and children with poor general hygiene practice increased odds toward oral disease with almost 2.5 times and 2.9 times respectively. Oral disease is still present a problem of concern in Sirt city, Libya. Current control measures in schools should focus on older children with chronic disease, low family income, lack of vitamin D intake and poor dental hygiene to ensure reduction of oral disease among school children in the city.
