Lack of awareness towards environment will lead to destruction of the earth and living beings. This thesis aims to identify the level of environmental awareness and attitude of students towards environment and environmental education, to find the significant differences in the environmental awareness level of students using different demographic variables and to find the relationship between environmental awareness and environmental attitude of students in Kuala Terengganu. The survey was conducted in 2014 academic year on 600 respondents (n=600) of form two and form four students were selected randomly from the urban, sub urban and rural areas in Kuala Terengganu. Dependents variables were the environmental awareness test, attitude of students towards environment and environmental education. Independent variables on the demographic factors were gender, age, school location, race, parents’ educational qualification and parents’ occupation. The research instrument was the questionnaire, using Likert scale prepared by the researcher. Methods of analyzing data were descriptive, t-test, Pearson correlation and ANOVA using SPSS version 16. Research outcomes showed that secondary school students have low level of environmental awareness (M=0.40) representing 40% of the total awareness. T-test and ANOVA analyses for gender, parents’ educational qualification and occupation showed an insignificant differences on the significant level of 95% (p<0.05). Differences in age, school location, and race of students revealed significant differences in the environmental awareness. It indicated that student aged 15-17years have “higher” environmental awareness (M=0.4245, ±0.1303) than students aged 12-13years (M=0.3150, ±0.1713). Indian students have “higher” environmental awareness (M=0.4535, ±0.1508) than Malay and Chinese students (M=0.3960, ±0.1429 and M=0.3667, ±0.1366) respectively. The Pearson correlation showed that there was positive but weak relationship between the environmental awareness and attitude of students towards environment. Therefore, an environmental awareness program should be expanded among secondary schools to be applicabledwithin student life for the long term period of time.
