Hence, this study is important to protect the ecosystems and the environment. The objectives of this study are to determine the concentration of heavy metals in freshwater fishes from Bukit Goh, Kuantan, to evaluate the potential health risks associated with the consumption of these fishes by local communities, and to develop a regression model of heavy metals in fish using water quality parameters. Samples of water and fish were collected and physicochemical analysis of water quality parameters was conducted in both in-situ and ex-situ sampling. The Water Quality Index (WQI) was also categorized. The heavy metal analysis in fish was determined by using the acid digestion method and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). A survey using the questionnaire was carried out to assess the health risk of the community through fish consumption and the data were analyzed by Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) techniques to show the spatial and prediction of health risk index from heavy metals levels. The WQI results showed that Sungai Kuantan was slightly polluted (Class II) while Sungai Riau and Sungai Pinang were heavily polluted (Class III) and required extensive water treatment. The result also showed the heavy metal concentrations in both water and fish samples were Fe(water:67ppb,fish:5.92ppm)>Al(water:2.36ppb,fish:4.95ppm)>Zn(water:0.14ppb, fish:2.28ppm)>Cu(water:0.04ppb,fish:0.618ppm)>Pb(water:0.03ppb,fish:0.34ppm)> Cd(water:0.03ppb,fish:0.155ppm)>As(water:0.03ppb,fish:0.11ppm)>Ni(water:0.018p pb, fish:0.04ppm). The results of PCA showed that the main sources of river water pollution were likely due to Fe and Al based on the high value of their loading factor (Fe:0.953, Al:0.966). The value of HQ Al (3.558) and Fe (1.935) was higher than the acceptable levels (HQ > 1) in all three rivers. HI values are higher than 1 for all rivers. The water quality index of Sungai Kuantan is in Class II while that of Sungai Riau and Sungai Pinang are in Class III and require extensive water treatment. The concentration of Fe and Al exceeded the safe limit. The HQ value of Fe and Al is more than 1, which results in the potential to pose health risks to the community. The accumulation of 8 heavy metals in fish muscles was predicted using regression models based on the values of the same heavy metals in water as well as temperature, turbidity, and COD. The calculated prediction models performed well for most heavy metals in fish. All measured water quality factors consistently contributed to heavy metals concentration in fish muscle. The model will provide comprehensive fish and water quality data, for a better evaluation of the potential health hazards to people in minimizing the consumption of contaminated fish in this area. The physical disturbance of the river can lead to declines in water quality, fish. Dissertations, Academic Sila masukkan subject wajib Dissertations, Academic. Terima kasih...
