Awareness of their visual acuity status is fundamental to one’s action for early eye care management. Due to the lack of easily understandable vision test mobile app, we developed the VisScreen for laypersons to readily screen their vision in the community. This is a preliminary report on the validation study of the VisScreen app as a tool for vision screening. Methods : Our VisScreen app is available from the Google Play store. It offers the advantages of LogMar chart by randomly presents the single letter ‘E’ in four different orientations for five times. The visual acuity level tested are 3/60, 6/60, 6/18 and 6/12, from the distance of 1.5 and 3 meters, to auto-generate the final results according to the level of visual impairment and blindness defined by WHO, easily understandable by most laypersons. Results : The validity was determined by comparing it with the Snellen chart. The preliminary results will be presented in term of its specificity, sensitivity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value. The test-retest and inter-rater reliability will also be presented. Conclusion : The validity and reliability of this app is expected to be adequate to promote it as an easy and rapid method for vision screening in the community by any laypersons. It will be useful for most patients to immediately determine their visual status for them to act fast and independently. This will greatly reduce our dependence on medical and eye care practitioners in our future prevention of blindness program at the primary care level in the community. 122nd Annual Meeting of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2019 Seoul, Korea
