Cervical cancer is a type of cancer with the highest prevalence of sufferers in Indonesia in 2013, which was 0.8% or an estimated 98,692 patients. Cervical cancer disease and treatment provide significant changes for patients because the impact of chemotherapy modifies the physical, psychological, and social conditions that will affect sufferers' quality of life. Not only that, but sufferers often experience problems, namely self-efficacy in self-care of signs and symptoms during chemotherapy and low optimism in treating the disease. For the purpose of the review family empowerment models was reffered. Therefore, the aim of this study is to find a family empowerment model (knowledge, attitudes, and skills) that affects the problems of cancer patients, namely quality of life, self-efficacy in self-care, and optimism. The study uses a mixed- method approach. This exploratory sequential mixed method combines qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis in a sequence of phases. The qualitative type used in this research is narrative, and the type of quantitative used is a quasi-experimental design with the control group. The study participants in the qualitative and quantitative study are cervical cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and the family of cervical cancer patients in Pirngadi and Murni Teguh Hospital in Medan. This research's unique and specific contributions to the research field are to get the model of family empowerment among cervical cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and the effect of the model on quality of life, self-efficacy in self-care, and optimism with cervical cancer.
