In Islamic law, ‘urf or ‘adah is classified under secondary sources in determining fiqh rulings or Shari’ah injunctions. There are many cases that indicate the importance of ‘urf in the formation and development of Islamic law. This paper highlights the conditions for the validity of a custom to be part of legal system and whether viral in social media can be recognized as a new custom under Islamic law.
